Kyra Solutions’ IntelliRoad Division’s Wrong Way Vehicle Detection System Expands Offerings on Florida’s Approved Products List

AI-Based Camera IntelliRoad

Tallahassee, FL (May 12, 2025) – Kyra Solutions’ IntelliRoad Division is a leader in real-time traffic safety technology. In October of 2025, the company announced that its state-of-the-art Wrong Way Vehicle Detection (WWVD) System has been added to the Florida Department of Transportation’s (FDOT) Approved Products List (APL). This approval, achieved through the Product Application and Tracking History (PATH) program, represents a major milestone for the company and follows years of rigorous evaluation. Today we are proud to announce our AI-Based Camera WWVD System has been approved on the APL.

WWVD systems are designed to help prevent catastrophic accidents by detecting vehicles traveling in the wrong direction. By adding an AI-Camera based system to our suite of offerings, IntelliRoad can offer reliable, cost-effective solutions for every roadway. IntelliRoad’s WWVD system leverages AI-driven analytics, and a scalable platform, to provide real-time alerts to traffic operators, dynamic message signs, connected vehicles, and navigation providers. These immediate notifications allow traffic management centers to respond quickly, reducing the risks associated with wrong-way driving, one of the most dangerous hazards on highways.

The FDOT approval process for the system involved comprehensive product testing under various environmental conditions at the FDOT Traffic Engineering Research Lab (TERL). The system was evaluated to ensure it meets strict safety and performance standards, including ISO 9001:2015 Quality Management Certification and NEMA certification. FDOT engineers also conducted site visits to inspect IntelliRoad’s facilities, reviewing operational processes and verifying the system’s reliability and quality.

“The safety of our roadways is our top priority, and the new AI-powered wrong-way vehicle detection system is a powerful step forward.,” said Sean Poole, Managing Director of IntelliRoad, a Division of Kyra Solutions. “This cutting-edge technology enables real-time detection and response to wrong-way drivers, helping prevent serious accidents and ensuring quicker interventions. It also offers transportation agencies valuable data to improve long-term safety planning and infrastructure investments. The most important impact is clear—it can save lives.”

The Wrong Way Vehicle Detection System is part of the company’s IntelliConnect platform, which offers a suite of real-time traffic safety and mobility solutions. Through integration with a variety of roadside devices, such as cameras, sensors, and dynamic message signs, IntelliConnect delivers vital, real-time information to traffic operators and motorists.
